Riverain is a haven. Unwind in deep leather sofas beside a roaring log fire (pre-laid, you just have to light it) as you enjoy a glass of wine, a freshly brewed coffee or a nibble of homemade fudge from your wicker welcome hamper. Gaze out through high arched windows onto Blencowe’s castle towers and the undulating fells beyond. Linger over dinner by candlelight in carved chairs around your dining table or spot wildlife from the arrowslit windows in the rose sandstone walls. Feasts and muddy hikes alike are cleared away with ease – your kitchen and utility come equipped with dishwasher, washer, dryer and dog rugs, so you can snuggle into a nook with a book (or a loved one) and set yourselves up for round two of your adventures.

Your secluded terrace is a suntrap for leisurely breakfasts alfresco and convivial barbecues, with generous lawns beyond for dogs and children to run off steam. Have leaf-and-stick boat races along with bubbling rill; turn the grassy haha into a moat and fend off invaders. Soak up the sun on long days scented with lavender. With Blencowe castle at your elbow and the Lakeland fells stretching as far as the eye can see, your imagination runs free and your spirits soar.

The Derwent Bedroom has a 6’ bed that can convert into 3’ singles upon request and an ensuite WC and shower room.

First Floor

The Haweswater Bedroom has a 6’ bed that can convert into 3’ singles upon request and an ensuite WC and shower room.

The Ullswater Room with a 5’ bed and an ensuite wc and bathroom with an over-bath shower.

Potter around Greystoke village, a mile away, visit its legendary castle; take tea in the walled garden of the Cycle Café or sample a local brew in The Boot and Shoe. Aira Force and Ullswater Lake are minutes’ drive away for rambles, steamboat jaunts, water sports or Michelin-starred food at Sharrow Bay. A very comfortable and well-fitted out holiday property. The beds were excellent. We appreciated the welcome basket of goodies. Communication with the owner was meticulous and speedy. Attractive and quiet location.
