The Lake District is a mecca for anglers and the Rowley Estates lie in the heart of some of its top fishing spots. Exceptional salmon, sea trout, trout and coarse fishing are all close by.
The Eden is considered one of the best salmon rivers in England. It is 90 miles long, running mainly from north to south, and in its early stages forms the boundary between Cumbria and North Yorkshire. The landscape through which it flows changes dramatically: the river rises in moorland 2,200 feet above sea level, goes over a waterfall called Hell Gill Force and plunges down stony glides, valleys and a limestone ravine before widening as it glides through rich farmland and woodland, past sandstone caves – finally to reach the mudstone flats at Carlisle before spilling out into the Solway Firth and so to the Irish Sea. During its journey the Eden gathers many tributaries, which contribute to Cumbria having more fishing waters than any other county in England.
Don’t forget to buy your Rod Licence before fishing. 1 day – full season available online or via a local post office

Established in 1850, it’s a non profit group which controls just over 40 miles of riverbank fly fishing on the rivers Eden, Eamont, Lowther, Petteril, Lyvennet, Leith, Dacre Beck and Trout Beck. The fishing in this area is mostly brown trout & grayling but there are also some salmon. This river system is a Candidate European Special Area of Conservation and a Site of Special Scientific Interest which speaks to its varied terrain and beautiful rural prospects. The trout season runs from 15th March – 30th September.
