Interested in really getting out to explore the countryside? We recommend any of the following longer walks. These are amongst our favourites – great scenery and a wonderful break away.
Charlie took Christine here for their first date in Cumbria & it has really special memories for us. The National Trust Aira Force Waterfall is delightful rain or shine and all times of the year. You can even take a stroller up the first section or extend out up and over Gowbarrow Fell for a more challenging hike and fabulous views over Ullswater. We have set out three routes starting at the National Trust carpark at the base of the fells & finishing back there & we recommend going straight to the welcoming tea shop just off the carpark after your hike.
This hike can either start from Hause Hall Farm in Martindale or from the free parking area near the New Church at Martindale at the top of the Hause. This six mile walk runs from Martindale in the Lake District to Sandwick then down to Glendridding and back via the Ullwater Steamer to Howtown – This walk is described in his well known walking guides as one of Alfred Wainwrights favourite walk in the North Lakes. There is not much elevation change & the views are amazing.
