Nestled beneath the cathedral ceilings of Elk Cottage, you’ll discover spacious, sunlit interiors. This tastefully converted retreat blends oak and stone seamlessly. Savor outdoor dining on the inviting sandstone terrace. Cozy up around the wood burner for games and late-night conversations, or step outside for exceptional stargazing beneath the pristine night sky.
Its adjoining cottage garden offers a rare, natural beauty just steps from your door. Elk Cottage is a world of stone walls, arched openings, terraced gardens, and well-appointed oak kitchens. It’s a place to inhale clean, fresh air, savor local cuisine, cherish moments with loved ones, and rediscover life’s true essentials.
Elk Cottage is a tranquil haven. You’ll long to return.
Breakfast on your sandstone terrace patio in the crisp Cumbrian air, secluded by dry-stone terraced cottage gardens. Get the coals glowing on your Weber barbecue to do justice to a wheel of local Cranston’s Cumberland sausage while dogs and kids burn off energy in the spacious lawned gardens.
The village of Glassonby is well endowed with native woodland and lovely hikes along the River Eden including to one of the Rowley family heritage sites of Long Meg and Her Daughters historic stone circle.
Ground floor
A private parking area, garden and entrance lead into the oak floored entrance hall which opens into the dining and interconnected reception room with a log-burning stove (plenty of free logs, kindling and firelighters provided!). The large oak-fitted breakfasting kitchen has a separate utility room area with a ground-floor WC and a laundry area. The sandstone terrace to the rear benefits from lovely raised flower beds leading up to a lawned area.
First floor
The Master Bedroom on the first floor has an antique oak linenfold carved 5’ bed and an ensuite WC and bathroom with a shower over the bath and a glass shower screen. The Eden Bedroom on the first floor has a six-foot super king bed which may be arranged as two twin beds upon request and an ensuite wc and shower.
Hike and bike the Pennines? Take the Ullswater Steamer to Aira Force? Or simply step outside your own front door and ramble from Dale Raven along the banks of the Eden River. Mark the seasons as you fish for brown trout and pick raspberries nearby on the estate. For thrill-seekers, there are zip-wires, paintballing, and mountain biking. For more relaxing pleasures, book a Michelin-starred lunch in one of Cumbria’s amazing restaurants or see a play at the Theatre by The Lake at Keswick.
