Baronial splendour amid rolling Lakeland countryside – made for a landmark celebration.
Stepping into the vaulted main hall at Glassonby, with its iron chandeliers, arrowslit windows and vast stone hearths, medieval revelry comes to mind. Glassonby’s made for gatherings. Get the logs glowing, unpack your generous wicker welcome hamper and throw an impromptu banquet in the flagstone dining hall.
With both Aga and oven in your professionally-equipped kitchen, cook up a feast or invite caterers in. After dinner, surprise your crowd and flip the dining table for a game of billiards. Or find a peaceful retreat in the beamed living room with deep casement windows overlooking rolling Cumbrian hills and farmland. If the mists set in, batten the oak shutters, stoke the wood stove with complimentary logs and curl up on deep sofas to read, talk and dream.
Glassonby’s medieval majesty and contemporary opulence will enchant you.
Take in the views from your sun trap terrace – a perfect spot for drinks and barbecues. Or pick an apple from a tree and stroll the lawns to enjoy the sprawling beauty of the Eden Valley as you plan your day. Trek the Pennine hills on horse, foot or bike? Go boating or fishing in the Lakes. They’re all on your doorstep.
