Elk Cottage is in the most peaceful of rural locations. So well placed for country walks. Exceptionally clean, fully and well equipped. The welcome hamper is wonderful, a thoughtful mix of practical and luxury treats! Communication is friendly and could not be more helpful. We are already planning our next visit – simply cannot keep away from this idyllic country retreat. Highly recommended.

A long weekend just isn’t long enough when you have such lovely accommodation and surroundings. With the log fire burning, the beef roasting in the Aga, and the stunning view from the day room across the hills, who would ever need to step outside? But it is truly too tempting not to explore the fells and dales, so bring your walking boots! Ten guests left with some great memories. Thank you all for a wonderful break. We all hope to be back one day

This was our second visit to Jenny’s Croft and will be visiting again very soon. We would highly recommend the cottage which is decorated to a high standard and fully equipped. The owner and housekeeping staff are excellent in communicating and assisting with your stay. The cottage is situated in a lovely location within driving distance to some nice days out, restaurants and shopping.

We have stayed either at Elk cottage or the neighbouring cottage, Jenny’s Croft, 4 times now. Once again, this most recent stay did not disappoint. Elk cottage is so comfortable and homely. It is so easy to relax there from the moment you arrive. It is very well equipped and the welcome basket is always so helpful. Never been anywhere else that tops the range of supplies you get, including a bottle of wine! The outdoor space (although in parts not fully enclosed) is great for our dogs. They love it. Perfect location for the Pennines and Ullswater region of the Lakes. Always lovely to come back from a long walk, make up the fire, and relax!

A wonderful cosy cottage with fantastic facilities, a large well-stocked kitchen, big open-space lounge with wood burning stove and two ensuite bedrooms. There is a patio outside with terraced garden. Very friendly owners with lots of tips on where to go and the best pubs and restaurants of which there are many. This is our second, slightly longer visit and we will definitely be back.

Couldn’t be better, we were delighted with our stay at Stag cottage. Accommodation was excellent – very comfy bed and linen. Wifi, t.v, radio all worked well. As for welcome pack… i’ve never seen anything quite like it… bread, butter, cereal, juice, toffee, wine, milk etc etc… Also the kitchen supplies were excellent – herbs and spices, tea towels, washing up liq, dishwasher tabs etc.. Local pub very welcoming although we didn’t eat there. Had breakfast at the village bakery – highly recommended.

Lovely comfortable cottage, very well equipped kitchen which was very welcome. Thank you for letting us visit our ancestral home.

This is my second visit back to Kirkbride (rented along side The Stag and Melmerby Hall). I rented the property to host a yoga retreat and on behalf of myself and guests I can say we were overwhelmed with the weekend. Luxury Accommodation, Beautiful Location, all round perfect venue and much appreciated help when we needed it from the owner/estate manager. Already booked another weekend here and have several more in the pipeline.
